The Blue Course at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Md., is prepped and ready to challenge the best golfers in the world at the U.S. Open in June. USGA Executive Director and championship set-up expert Mike Davis walks you through an interactive map of the 18 holes that will decide the 111th national championship

The injuries to Tiger Woods has still put his status for the U.S Open later this month in doubt. After withdrawing from the Players Championship in the first round back in May due to his knee and achilles tendon, Woods continues to use a protective boot and crutches while walking, with his practice schedule still unknown.

This week, the PGA Tour travels to Ohio, for the playing of The Memorial Tournament, hosted by Jack Nicklaus. Normally an event on Woods’ schedule, the 14-time Major Championship winner will not be in the field this week, though did speak to the tournament host.

“He said, ‘I tried up until today to see if I’m going to be able to come and play, but I can’t,’” Nicklaus said of his conversation with Woods. “He said, I’m still hobbling, and he said, I don’t know whether I’m going to make the U.S. Open or not.”

IN THE HOLE! Golf

It would be the first time as a professional Woods would miss the U.S Open if he is unable to go. Back in 2006 after the death of his father, Woods returned to competition at Wingfoot despite it being just weeks after the tragedy.

“I told Tiger when I was on the phone with him, which is the same thing I’ve said to him a thousand times, Tiger, nobody ever wants records to be broken,” Nicklaus said. “That’s obvious. I mean, I don’t care who it is.”

“But I certainly don’t want you not to be healthy and not have the opportunity to play to break records. I want you to get yourself healthy, do what you have to do to go play, get your golf game back in shape, and I wish you well, wish you good luck, which I would say that to any athlete and anybody, because I think that’s the way it should be.”

Woods won his 14th and last Major Championship back at the U.S Open in 2008, which one would recall he was victorious in spite of badly damaged ACL and several small fractures in his left leg.

But Woods has not won an event since 2009, and his game has not come together for an entire week in 2011, despite notching several good rounds sporadically.

Nonetheless, Woods is listed as the overall favorite along with Phil Mickelson to win the 2011 U.S Open from Congressional, going off at 10/1 on U.S Open Futures Odds at Bodog Sportsbook.
